The main riff, like all visceral guitar riffs, came out of nowhere. I had a bit of nostalgia for my old bands where this riff could have been used, but now can't be.
Then one weekend in November 2015 I got a sudden burst of creative energy; new strings on my two guitars and bass so I threw down some drum beats in reaper and threw down an arrangement very quickly. The 'lead' overdubs and additional sections all came in a very productive early afternoon.
This became the starting point of wanting to do an EP project like this, where bits I've had lying around can get built and expanded upon with a 'full' production. So while it breaks my rule of EP recorded this week, it's very much the catalyst; that and I reckon it's a really good tune!
